Ulster Bank

Just a heads up the MSE savings "best rate" at the moment (July 2024) promotes Ulster Bank. I tried to open this account, but you also need a current account. So I tried to open a current account, uploaded lots of personal information and ... nothing. I tried the customer help line and the agent offered to send me an email to my perosnal account ( red lights start flashing ). So I tried their fraud line which has a 'bot' front end which is pretty unnavigable. Social media (Facebook) states that Ulster Bank closed in 2021. Worried. Anyone else?

It's a ball ache to open outside of NI but very much still available and the bank is still in operation!
  • The Ulster Bank (www.ulsterbank.co.uk) is still operating in Northern Ireland, and is part of the NatWest Group and has around 25 branches. It even prints its own Ulster Bank sterling notes.

The Ulster Bank did cease its operations in the Republic of Ireland in April 2023, but NOT in Northern Ireland.

They are very very slow with current account applications. You just need to be patient, and cooperate with their requests

Very slow application process but, have patience as, once opened, I have found them to be very good. Both current account and loyalty saver accounts provide instant access and immediate transfer timescales. Ulster Bank were a stand alone bank, then became part of NatWest group and are now  NatWest trading as Ulster Bank. They are most certainly genuine.

I opened Loyalty Saver when it was launched, didn't fund it for some time because Santander issue 3 was paying the same rate and for EA I prefer monthly interest... now Ulster LS is my main EA account.  Don't know how long it will take them to reduce the rate, but so far I'm happy with how it works.
