Can anyone please give some advice on behalf of my mother
A couple of weeks ago she received an letter from the HRMC saying that she maybe entiltled to home responsibilities protection .
She had 3 children and received child support from 1972 until they were 18 ( or possible 21 as they were in full time education ) - she did not work within this period .
Been asked to check the NI contributions for these years but it seems that Gateway only seem to allow me to check to the early 90s but by then she stopped receiving child support.
She became a pensioner in 2012 and receives a pension of around £180 with most of the NI passed on from my dad who passed away in 2005.
I want to submit the forms but she is concerned that it could have a detrimental effect on her pension , could it in fact reduce the amount she receives ?- she has some savings so does not get pension credit etc.
any help would be appreciated.

Nothing you or her do will detract from her current state pension so you may as well fill out the forms. However, given she receives more than the old basic state pension she is already receiving some additional pension elements (SERPS/S2P, GRB) inherited from her husband. Gaining extra years for HRP is highly unlikely to add any more money to that amount.0
