long time carer for mum and dad.was receiving carers allowance for dad ,until passed away at the end of January.had to reclaim for mum when his benefit finished in march .sent in new claim for mum in march/april.claim recieved acknowleged by e mail.knew it would take a while so phoned in May to say nothing recieved.was told there was a back log would get to know soon .claim was apparently escalated as i told them this was my only source of income.several calls later still in same position . told same thing will know shortly ,claim not processed yet.operator says nothing can be done? until decision?can anybody give me any advice please.

All you can do is keep chasing it up. There is a massive backlog on new claims at present. It was taking an average of 3 months a couple of years ago (I helped someone make a CA claim) and it has increased since then.

I find this somewhat strange as I recently did a claim for Carers Allowance (online) and I received the allowance within around 5 weeks. Was your claim online?

I think it can often just be pot luck how long a claim like CA takes to be sorted out. The claim I helped someone with a couple of years ago (as mentioned in my post above) was made online and was straightfoward and took about 12 weeks to be put into payment.

getting a letter next week.will be 5 months.!
