B&Q offer

Hi folks, apologies if this is the wrong place to post but this is my first time :) and I felt the need to share somewhere.

Yesterday, 28th December, I visited B&Q and purchased a FocalPoint Plasma Contemporary Flueless Gas Fire. The original price was £399 with reduction price of £319 advertised (I believed this therefore to be a 'sale price'). Following the advertisement on tv and the posters in the shop I assumed that I would get a further 20% off the sale price. When getting to the till I was told that this was not the case. I queried this and the till person checked with the manager who confirmed that the £319 was the final offer price. I said that the poster was therefore misleading but paid the price. At home today I again saw the TV advertisement and I rang B&Q Customer Services who again confirmed the final offer price was £319 as I had paid yesterday. The advert is definitely confusing. It would appear from the information that the fire, though reduced, was not 'on sale' but already included the 20% reduced price advertised due to the current offer (over £300 spent). I think that this should be amended because the tv and poster adverts say 20% on top of sale prices. Selling the fire cheaper if not 'on sale' is therefore misleading.

I wondered if anyone else had experienced this?

  • The B&Q sale add on their front page said 20 percent off if you spent more than £300 in store. There was no qualification anywhere.
    I spent over £500 only to be told it only applied to certain lines. The store manager eventually gave me 10 percent and said I was free to contact their head office, I emailed both B&Q and Kingfisher a week ago but no acknowledgment yet. B&Q do of course have an appalling reputation for customer service so I expect a long fight. At least they have now changed the offer as set out in their website. The trouble is that the authorities have no teeth when it comes to misleading and dishonest advertising .
  • Perhaps B&Q have finally realised that their legendary appalling customer service is losing them customers. Today I received a cheque for the amount I requested.

    B&Q are well known for their missleading offers and "sales" I worked there for 18months and I can honestly say hand on heart "never again". Its like the time they had 20% off on radiators when I worked there but politly told me to agree with the logic that "towel warmers" where not included because they are not classed as radiators although they are with all the radiators in store.Needless to say when i was serving customers who wished to purchase one of these i couldnt tell them quick enough that they were not included in the offer and made it clear that i thought it was utter bollox that they could get around it in this way!!!!

    I spent ages arguing over the price of a radiator today there was no sale price displayed, but it was supposed to have 20% off there was no minimum spend advertised.
    When I asked about the price I was told there was no offer then that the money had already been taken off the price. :huh:
    I had to fetch the leaflet with the offer in it to prove it should be in the sale
    and the radiator brochure to show them the price shown was the normal selling price.
    They took the 20% off after that.
