I'm asking if anyone has any knowledge of how annual in arrears pension payments are handled by Universal Credit. My jobcentre is saying it should be spread equally across the year but is this correct?

In my limited knowledge it should be treated as income in the assessment period that it is received.0

If you're talking about back dating state pension then it will be taken as income back to the proper start date and will cause problems with any income related benefit. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the same with any backdated work pension as well. So if you get a benefit based on a certain income you are changing it when it is back dated. So if you backdated your pension now to the beginning of 2024 then all income related benefits would be effected. I suspect you would be better having it paid currently rather than annually in arrears.
If DWP was a normal financial institution I would say get it in writing and then they would have to stick to what they have put on paper. But as it is the DWP I suspect they might say "oh someone made a mistake and that doesn't actually apply".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
