Are appliance replacements able to be older models?

Hi, John Lewis replaced a broken 2016 AEG hob in 2017 with a 2011 model (unknown to me). It is now broken. The 2016 model would have been repairable for a total cost from the manufacturer of £170 but the 2011 model is obsolete so unrepairable so needs replacing at a cost of approx £709 + installation. Who is liable for this cost? Does anyone know my rights?

Bit more detail needed. Was the 2011 version identical?
As it stands, as it's been over six years no-one is liable as you wouldn't be able to enforce any action.
  • It was identical in the sense that it looked the same but I would argue it’s not identical because as it stands today the original one I bought would be fixable whilst this one isn’t. The replacement was fitted in November 2017 so is over 6 years old

If it was replaced under warranty, then their warranty terms say they will replace with the nearest equivalent specification.

As previous poster said though, you wouldn’t be able to enforce any consumer rights since it’s over 6 years old.
