Now that we have grown-ups in government I'm hoping things will change. For now it's down to the individual local authority. For example in Norfolk you can get a permit to trail a (suitably protected) cable across the pavement. In Oxford I believe they're trialing cable gullies. I suggest you contact your MP.
yet to be seen - but it's not honestly looking good is it

Where my brother lives they will allow those rubber ramped cable protectors that reach across the pavement.

How do thye ensure that no one else parks in that space?  Do they have dedicated parking spaces?
No parking space, it's pot luck if you reach.
He lives at the end of a cul de sac, so it's not usually an issue, he just rolls out the cable and rubber protector map when needed for his PHEV.

Lamp post chargers will turn out to be a bit like getting a Disabled Bay whitelined outside one's house and a 'Blue Badge Holders Only' sign screwed to one's garden wall.
Then you discover that of course any Blue Badge holder can use it.
No one must expect an exclusive street lamp post charger.
In my area the lamp post chargers are just in normal resident parking bays (permit needed between 08.00 to 18.30), they aren't marked for EV's only.

If you have an EV and a permit (or pay per hour) and can reach, all is good.

If something else is parked near the lamp post and you can't reach, well you have to go somewhere else even if you have a permit.
There are three chargers on the street, one is actually next to the only marked disabled space on the whole street.

I've been off work with an injury recently so have been at home a lot and noticed a few EV's on charge with parking tickets as the owners don't realise you have to pay for parking there and pay for charging if you don't have a permit.
It's marked pretty clearly on the signs, but owners just ignore them.

I've watched the local councils parking wombles, they patrol the area pretty regularly between the restricted hours and they obviously know these EV's will be parked up for a while, easy prey for them.

I don't if I have another option park close to these lamp posts, but you don't always have a choice, parking is pretty tight at the best of times.

I came out one morning to find a cable stretch across my bonnet.
I had to unplug it to get the car out of the space as it went from the offside rear of the car in front, diagonally across my bonnet to the lamp post.

I can understand someone getting frustrated with the local charging options, but I didn't come up with them and I certainly won't buy a EV until this improves, not just in my area but nationally.

For the last 8 months I've been on secondment filling in for someone on a career break and the job means visiting external sites dotted around.
I have access to an EV to get about as part of the job, it was a bit of fun to start with but that's drained away.
I can charge it for free at two of the sites I visit, but I don't have to visit those that regularly.
I can't charge it in the car park of my main office though.
Home charging is impossible, on street locally, well we know about that.

The biggest personal trip I did was to the airport as I got a discount on parking with free EV charging via a discount scheme that was cheaper than just plain parking.

The car has been a bit of a headache really, I gave up taking it home due to the parking problems and expense and charging issues.
Though I have enjoyed the secondment, I'm glad it's ending at the end of the month.
It has shown an EV isn't a variable option for me yet.
