Eon exit fees

Has anyone had the same issue as me where I signed up for a duel fuel fixed term tariff with exit fees then part way through the fixed term my bills show there as being no exit fees?
I tried to switch tariff and the fees are payable contrary to information on my bill. I’ve spoken to Eon who are aware of this discrepancy but will not waiver the exit fees and move me to a cheaper tariff for free.
I have raised this as a complaint through Eon’s complaints procedure. Wondered if anyone else had success with this. My issue isn’t with the exit fees just the discrepancy between the bill stating no fees & Eon stating £300 exit fees as per initial contract.

You have a valid complaint about their inconsistency in where they displayed there were exit fees. But, as you've admitted you were fully aware that the exit fees existed, I'd say you have no valid complaint that exit fees would apply should you decide to switch, and have little chance that Eon will change that.
I'd wager the Energy Ombudsman would take that view too, were you to escalate your complaint to them. I'm not even sure Eon will try to throw a few £ your way to stop that from happening, but I'd grab that if they do.2 -
Hi OP ...
A few of us here have experienced this it seems to have started in April. There is a thread on the E.ON Next Community forum which discusses it (it's only 2 pages) ... https://community.eonnext.com/threads/8596-Internal-Switching-Fee-(no-Exit-Fee-tariff)?highlight=exit (from online dashboard >> Help >> Our Community).
Customer Service are aware of the issue but are categoric that it is the T&Cs of the tariff (or Welcome e-mail/letter) which counts.
I think the view of @MeteredOut is correct.1 -
to my mind, if you agreed to a specific contract with exit fees then that stands until the contract period ends or unless there is a written agreement or notification to change or waive the fees before the end of that contract.
An omission or error on a bill or statement doesn't negate the contract.
I cant see that raising this as a complaint or even trying to escalate it to the ombudsman will get you very far.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
