Vodafone trade in scam?.

Evening all.

I hope we are all well.

I hope this is posted in the correct section.

On 23rd June, I saw a deal too good to turn down on the Vodafone website. I spoke to an agent on live chat and was assured if I traded in my current phone I would get £230 which would pay off my current device plan and would pay off several months of my airtime plan. I went ahead and the agent also sent me a free dpd box to return my phone in.

On the 25th June after receiving my phone I sent off my previous device. I took pictures of the phone in its original box, put it inside the dpd box they sent and it was all wrapped up. I took it to my nearest post office and got a receipt.

On the 28th June, the tracking says Vodafone have received it.

I have contacted in total 3 times, twice I contacted them for an updated and they said approx on the 1st and 8th July they had not got it yet, even though I provided tracking they said they have not got it.

I contacted them for third time the 12th July via live chat and they assured me it’s been received and the balance will be cleared off my next bill etc.

Today I woke up to a text to say they had not received anything and the offer does not stand.

I put in a complaint stating the above and the only response was you provided an empty box , there is nothing we can do, contact DPD. I have contacted DPD and they said Vodafone has to contact DPD?.

I am so annoyed and angry. Please does anyone have any advice at all?.

Thank you.

Firstly, it's not a scam.  That phrase is chucked around a lot.  Vodafone don't need to get involved in petty scams to make profits.  From their point of view, they might consider that it's you that's scammed them!

It sounds as if your package has either broken and the phone has fallen out, or it's been tampered with and the phone stolen.  As you describe it, it's them with the DPD contract, so DPD are correct to say they won't deal with you.

All you can do is send a letter before action threatening to sue them and see if they back down.  If they don't, then it's down to who the court believes.
