Rained after one coat of paint

Hi, we've just bought a potting shed which we're going to assemble ourselves, but which hasn't been treated. The recommendation was to treat it before assembling it, so after checking the forecast we started. No sooner had we got 2 panels painted when the rain came. We have covered them the best we can, but the rain doesn't look like abating enough for them to be dry enough to put on the second coat today and so, as we are using Cuprinol Garden Shades which says second coat should be 2 - 8 hours after the first, we're not sure what we should do. Any suggestions please?

  • Just wait for the rain to stop and paint again. Even if it's not for a few days. It will be fine.

Did my first shed in the depths of winter. Painting was interrupted by rain & cold on several days. The shed has been up for over six years now without any ill effects. Could probably do with recoating, but suffering from CBA at the moment.

that means it may take up to 8 hours for the first coat to be dry enough to ensure optimal condition for the next coat.

it is not, as you seem to think, a time limit in which you have apply the second coat

Thanks all. We managed to get a second coat on in the evening and it stayed fine overnight. Phew! Potting shed now erected and painted. :)
