Tesco black box insurance

My daughter had Tesco black box insurance which she has just tried to cancel.  She has 4 months left and just over 1200 miles left on her policy.  Tesco want to charge her £340 which includes the cancellation fee of £80 and a fee to buy more miles because they say that if she continues with her policy she will go over the miles allocated.  We explained the car is off the road due to be scrapped as it's engine has died.  But they are standing steadfast saying that their estimate off her possible mileage is correct due to data on the black box.  Any thoughts?

Provide Tesco with evidence that the vehicle has been scrapped. Job done.

Would depend on the T&C's as to whether the mileage covered is on a monthly basis or an annual. I would have thought it a reasonable argument that many drivers do not have an evenly split monthly mileage over a year (e.g. use car more in winter than summer) and to take their approach is unfair.

They are surely covering for a risk of miles actually covered not could possibly covered in this scenario.

I would make a formal complaint and then take it to the ombudsman if that doesn't resolve it.

    Does she pay monthly?
If so then she has taken out a loan for the policy.

So they are trying to pro-rata the miles done across the year?

What do the terms of the policy state on cancellation?

Tesco's are just lending their brand to the blackbox insurer, it's not them. Really have to know the cancellation terms before saying if its a case of buying a poor quality product or that they're making an error.
