Door & Window quote, am I out of touch?

Hello,

I'm wanting to replace my front and back doors, and replace 6 windows in my place, near Bristol.

5 windows are approx 1.3m wide by 1m high, with 3 glazed elements with outer 2 opening, and 1 is 60cmx1m. Plain double glazed white casement windows. Front door would be composite, single glazed panel in the top half, and back door uPVC white and full height glazed.

Just had my first meeting and quote back, and was a bit shocked at the price. They'd come recommended by a couple of colleagues so I was expecting and hoping this would be the only quote needed.

Price for the 2 doors (front door was an Endurance door) came to £3656, and then including all windows too if I opted for those too, total came to £7170.

Are these the current realistic fully fitted prices? Last time I had window/door fitted on another property were 4 years ago, and I was expecting quite a bit less.

Thanks.

We recently paid £3000 for three new windows. These were upvc sliding sash windows (quite nice heritage style with run-through sash horns etc., but not exceptionally large windows) from a local company with a reasonable reputation. They're not an especially expensive supplier - they were half the price of another local firm with liveried vans and a much bigger advertising budget. We're not a million miles from you, on the other side of a big old bridge.

On that basis the price you mention for 6 windows and two doors from a firm with personal recommendations doesn't sound too bad to me.

After  Covid, the cost of many raw materials shot up . That includes plastics like PVC, glass etc .
Although that situation has calmed down, the general cost of living has gone up, including window fitters wages, cost of energy etc .
You can always get a cheaper quote but if doors and windows are not installed correctly then it can bring a lot of problems.
Maybe get another couple of quotes for reference anyway.

uPVC (and probably composite) has been going up 10-15% each year since 2020. I think I've spent around £6K on 7 windows plus a bay (counts as three) and a door over the last couple of years. Would probably cost £7-8K today.

Try tradeframe.com.  They have an online quote function where you don’t have to put in email or phone number.  They might or might not cover your area but it gives a good no nonsense ball park.  NB.  We have ordered from them 4 times for 2 houses so I speak as a satisfied customer.

The actual price of the PVC polymer that is used to make PVC window profiles, pipes, gutters, LVT etc. actually nearly tripled at one point from its pre Covid price, due to high demand and short supply. It has calmed down a bit but the high oil price/Ukraine has not helped either.
The window producers struggled to pass on these costs, so even though prices have increased 10 to 15% a year, they are still playing catch up and one biggish player has gone under.

Thanks for all the replies. Tried tradeframe.com and it wanted my details to get a quote so no quick ball park check there. So, the general opinion is then is that the actual prices I've had are reasonable then, and I'm probably expecting too much? How much has anyone paid for just an Endurance door? I was expecting that element to be say 1500, and the a fully glazed upvc one quite a bit cheaper so the biggest shock was the 2 doors being £3600.
