Hi - I am trying to help my mum to work out if the shares my father had in British Steel are worth anything and how to get the money for her. They are in my deceased father's name and an old address...I just dont know what to do. Thank you.

I presume this is a certificate someone's found; what's the date on it?helenawp said:Hi - I am trying to help my mum to work out if the shares my father had in British Steel are worth anything and how to get the money for her. It became Corus Group plc in 1999 when it merged with a Dutch company, Hoogovens (HO). Usually with mergers like this you'll receive a new share certificate and you're supposed to throw the old one away. I cannot find the exact terms at the moment but it looks like it was a 62/38 BS/HO all share merger so new share certificates will have been issued.Corus Group was bought by Tata Steel for cash in 2007 and if your father/mother owned any Corus shares they would have been paid cash and any certificate would have become defunct. You could try contacting Corus' old registrar to confirm this was paid but it's been so long that even if the money wasn't paid because contact had been lost with your father by now it will have been forfeited.
