School Fine

Hi all,
We unfortunately had to take our kids out of school during term time. We were advised this would incur a fine and have received a notice from the local authority on paying the fine.
Just wanted to check, are there any timescales/deadline for local authorities in issuing the fine itself or required duration where they must notify parents of a fine?

There is no set date or deadline. They can send a fine months later if they wish.Kimi84 said:Hi all,

There is a deadline unless the rules have changed but I can't remember what they are, maybe 6 months? If you're on social media eg facebook, I'd suggest joining a dedicated group about them. They'll be called 'parents against school/holiday fines/pcns or something like that, you may need to have a play around with words but those groups will have the most up to date info/legislation1

Thanks for that. I thought there was no deadline as my cousin received which was after about 8 months and a load of arguments with the council. She was advised to pay it by the cab0

The council will argue black is white. Schools are notorious for not knowing laws/legislation relating for schools or even their own policies (I have the t-shirt on pointing that one out, not to do with a term time hol) and CAB will have advised to pay to save it escalating to a worse outcome. You need people who know the rules inside out, it's why I had to join groups relating to school issues. They made me aware of things that I'd been oblivious to.marcia_ said:Thanks for that. Today the school sent out a notice saying government have bought out a new policy increasing fines s shortening the time off to receive a fine, accumulating days etcSpendless said:

Yes, I'm aware there's new legislation about to come into force. Mine are adults in their 20s now, so doesn't apply.marcia_ said:
