FOS - Can They See My Credit File?

Wondering if anyone knows and do please move if not the appropriate board to post on.

I have an open complaint with the FOS in relation to a supposed bank account which came to light at the end of last year.

I have just received a letter from the FOS asking for a few bits of information, one of them being my address for the past ten years. Will they use this to search my credit file for the past ten years or is it more standard procedure?

As far as I am aware they are yet to contact the bank in question bit did find it a little odd they asked for this.

Thanks.

Depending on the complaint having a look at your credit history might be helpful.  Why they need your addresses for the last 10 years is a bit of a mystery unless you have a name like John Smith.  Most credit histories actually provide more about past addresses than people can remember once the current address and date of birth have been entered.  More likely it would be to search for previous complaints on their system is my guess.

Meanwhile - if it's like where I work normally we're scurrying off in several different directions all at once and hoping for reasonably prompt replies.

You are free to ask why the are requesting the information.  However, at the end of the day, you are asking for their intervention is investigating your complaint so it does not make sense to withhold information from them.
