Can't log in to ZorinOS on Virtual Machine

I'm not entering my password incorrectly. This isn't an issue with caps/no caps or spelling things wrong.

I've been able to get in there just fine. I did yesterday & also this morning.

Came to log in now & it doesn't work. Shut the VM down, start again - no joy. I enter the password, the screen goes black, a couple seconds pass & then I'm back at the login screen. 

I purposely enter the password wrong by doing a variation of the password but entering one letter as a capital instead of lower case & it tells me the password is wrong ... which is correct (I mention this as I'm showing that I don't get this message when entering the correct password).

Is that it - game over?
