I honestly think packing his job in for 16 miles is beyond risky. For all the reasons others have outlined. But I'd add another aspect. It's nigh on impossible he'd get JSA if he did.
Not being funny, but my mobility scooter does 8mph top speed. 16 miles is two hours. I'm always overtaken by cyclists going double my speed. What about a better bike?1 -
In his late 50s my husband cycled 20 miles to work which probably took him just shy of 2 hours.1

Appreciate the reply yeah he’s aware on the JSA side I don’t think again he minds traveling on his bike to a point but he’s gonna have to bypass m1 and go down the A52 I believe doing that at 4am I’d probably wouldn’t be as keen.LinLui said:I honestly think packing his job in for 16 miles is beyond risky. As mentioned earlier if he did cycle he’s no way leaving work and getting back in time to pick his kids up from school and they have said they aren’t willing to alter his hours while he sorts out alternative arrangements for picking his kids up for me as I’ve said he just needs to look for alternative employment.£2820/£4000 0% 24 months pay £150 HSBC

Appreciate the reply and he loves to cycle also think that’s why he’s never past his test for me I can’t be bothered to cycle 2 miles let alone 2 hrs lolGeneral_Grant said:In his late 50s my husband cycled 20 miles to work which probably took him just shy of 2 hours.£2820/£4000 0% 24 months pay £150 HSBC

In view of all this, he probably would get JSA.

If he is still with the employer at the time his depot closes this could well be a redundancy situation. His old role will no longer exist and for the reasons given, the alternative (new location) is not suitable. In his position I would be looking for alternative employment now. However, if I hadn’t found anything by the time of the move I would be pursuing a redundancy payment.0

I don't see redundancy here. The job still exists. The new location is not unreasonably far away. Childcare and travel arrangements are not the employer's concern.thebrexitunicorn said:If he is still with the employer at the time his depot closes this could well be a redundancy situation. Is there any wraparound care at the school / nursery?
But I'd be looking for another job.Signature removed for peace of mind2 -
Not at the school they are currently at unfortunately he has a telephone appointment with acas tomorrow so maybe they will shed some more light on the situation and I agree it’s not far in the grand scheme of things for me who can drive going off topic a little… but if this job was advertised now at derby he’d never Apply for it as 3 buses around 4amSavvy_Sue said:

To then arrive late for shift because the times of the buses wouldn’t get you there on time and I reckon if he mention that at the interview he probably wouldn’t be hire based off that as well.

He could peerhaps hire an electric bike to see if the new depot is commutable. A 4.00am start seems very early no matter what industry he is in and he obviously does not do school drop offs. He is probably better off looking for another job though if he needs to work around child care then he is as limited as any parent further handicapped because he does not drive.0

Plenty of good apps out there to route plan/plan a route for the cycle that would avoid the likes of motorways. Could be worth him planning it out and doing a recce or test commute one day and then see how difficult or manageable it is for him. May make him realise he needs to look elsewheremagpies79 said:
