Motability car and car crash

Options
Hi all

So sadly my husband and I were involved in a car crash and was hit from behind. We were so close to the final destination too and that makes it even more painful.

We got it sorted after a long wait for recovery and we got a taxi home thanks to motab. We were hour and half from home so this helped so much.

It looks like the exhaust has come away,.parking sensors broke and a bit of damage to the rear bumper. Also the boot opened when it was hit too.

It is currently at the garage awaiting repairs. But we have a question in terms of the car if it gets written off what happens in regards to the down payment we paid (I am aware that we have to look for a new car and get it sorted within 3 months). The car is only 3 months old and 2000 miles on the clock.

We are just wondering what happens if it gets written off and the down payment.

This can be moved if not the right area.

Thank you

I would have thought it unlikely that such a new car would be written off unless there is more than cosmetic damage. However this did happen to a friend of mine and they got a pro-rata write off of their advance payment - so they got some of it back. But that was not recently, and I can't say that the rules haven't changed, so I suspect that the Motability Scheme are the only people who can tell you for definite.

I would talk to Motability about it. As it could be part of the ins claim.

  • This was several years ago, but I had my
motability car stolen. It was close to the end of its term, they refunded me about £25 which was the pro rata amount of my advance payment.
