Collect Plus Issue

Have used Collect Plus recently for stuff off eBay and Amazon with no issues, until today.

I got an email from Royal Mail telling me the item had been delivered, I then waited for the usual email telling me my item is ready for collection etc but nothing came through.

Popped  down to the shop, and the person working there said I cannot give you the parcel because you don't have the collection code.

So I went home, contacted eBay explaining the issue and they gave me the " ECP " code which I am now aware I can see via eBay.

Went back to the shop, they looked at the code on my phone and then just handed me the parcel after showing them ID

Very odd. I am sure they did not "scan" my parcel when it arrived at the shop, hence no email telling me it was ready for collection.
Even now, it does not say that I have collected it, even though I obviously have.

Has this happened to anyone else ? I'm thinking next time, to use a different location for click and collect.
At no point did I get any "collection code", just the ECP code which was on the front of the parcel.

Recently I had a Collect + parcel given to someone who wasn't me- they are supposed to check id! 
Thankfully the person returned it to the store (local Co-op) and I was reunited with it.

Have had the same but with a retailer direct not Ebay. It took a long time to sort out as they kept giving me various different codes, none of which was the ECP. I kept going to the shop with different codes, none of which they would accept. In the end I contacted Collectplus directly who gave me the ECP code straight away.
