Temporary Traffic lights - filmed at other end

Hi I went through temporary traffic lights and they turned amber just as I went through. 3 cars behind me decided to go through after me, so was at red. It was a longer stretch of road closed. At the other end there was a construction person filming all the cars coming through on his iPhone. I am worried that because of the 3 idiots behind me we are going to get reported to the police. Would his video be evidence if he was down the other end at the opposite traffic lights?

How would his video at the end of the roadworks show you going past an amber or red light at the start of the roadworks?

If anything were to come of this there would have to be evidence of you going past an amber or red light at the start of the roadworks, not at the end.

I wouldn't worry about it - there's no point and nothing is likely to happen

Thanks so much, I was just wondering if he had any authority to send the video to Police and his statement would be enough. Feel better now, so I guess he was probably just trying to scare us.

Any member of the public is "authorised" to report any crime they've witnessed to the police.

But nothing he's filmed at the end of the roadworks can prove you went through an amber or red light at the start of the roadworks, can it?

    I'd forget it.

In the unlikely event that anything comes of it, you'll just have to deal with it at the time.  But unless there's video of you committing the offence I don't see what can possibly happen...

[Edit:  I'm sure 100s of drivers go through temporary lights on red every day and nothing happens]

Was he standing beside the opposing traffic light ?
If so he could have recorded the sequence changing and continued  filming

They might (probably with expert evidence) be able to establish when the other lights changed. But they can’t establish the accused driver’s speed, and hence when he passed those lights.

Having a dashcam would be some insurance against such an accusation as you can prove that your actions were reasonable.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Echo all the above, if it's a long stretch if roadworks you could easily have been delayed within it by cars going slow, tractors etc. There is no evidence you went through a red light and you are worrying about nothing.

The worker might also have had other reasons for filming, such a creating a record that he'd set the site up correctly, or trying to show an office based colleague / manager some problem or other he was encountering. Wouldn't worry about it.
