Nationwide switch warning instore?

Options
Hello.
I was passing one of my local nationwide BS so decided  to pop in to speak to a human.
I enquire about switching out my recently 2nd nationwide account which is under 2 weeks -ish old after receiving  the £200 offer.

I was informed that l couldn't  do it because l had only recently  had cash off them and needed to use the account  for at least  6 months.
I informed the guy that my other account  will still be used plus savings  l have with them.
But he said you can't just have money off nationwide  then leave?
Also added all your account  could be closed too.

I'm a bit confused  now because the opinions lve read and had replys off the folks on here say "Go for it"

But the guy behind the desk said NO.

Don't know why you bothered to actually ask them, but as usual it's another customer service agent who doesn't understand the actual T&Cs of the offer.

It's probably against the spirit of what Nationwide intend, but there are absolutely zero terms requiring you to maintain the account after they pay you the switch incentive. You can switch away without any issues, and they won't try and reclaim the bonus from your current or savings accounts after the fact, or close any of your other accounts you may hold.

Guy behind the desk is misinformed.

Open a complaint. Include in the complaint that you tried to resolve in branch and were misinformed in branch, as there is no terms that match the staff member's claims.

I wouldn't raise a complaint, I'd just ignore it. It's possible they could close all your accounts if you've had several switch bonuses and then switched away each time, but they're very unlikely to do that if it's your first time.

He sounds about as competent as whoever it is that's responsible for their app. I started a switch away from a Nationwide current account the day I got the switching bonus with no problem at all. They'd obviously like people to stay but there is nothing to say you have to.

I think the old refer a friend offer from a few years back had a minimum time you had to keep the account so maybe the staff member was confused.

Well, l was passing and did, wish l didn't now mind.

Yes, l suppose  it does go against the spirit, but  they do offer these bribes to people and people  being people.

I think I'd  trust the  collective  mind on this forum rather than the odd person in the branch. I've had the wrong info before off staff it lots of institutions, not just financial.
    Thank you.

Maybe. I'll  think I'll  risk it a switch again.
