Unoccupied home insurance

Looking for unoccupied home insurance for my late mother in law’s property.  Appreciate this is higher risk so policy cost is higher but struggling to find any offering a reasonable priced policy.

Would appreciate any wisdom on this please, maybe one of you has been through this and found a solution?

Thank you
Regards

I thought there is normally a maximum number of days unoccupied clause

Or they add conditions for longer term, like draining and isolating utilities, regular inspections, increased external security....  It's possible to insure a permanently unoccupied, basically derelict property.

Yes that’s correct so it’s now beyond that requiring permanent unoccupied insurance until property sells.  Previous conditions such as water off at mains, boiler shut down etc.

Current company Towergate wants over a £1000 for 2 bedroom bungalow in South Wales.

We had unoccupied home insurance with a company called Vasek via James and Linsday insurance brokers in Colchester. It was 7 years ago now, but wasn't horrendously expensive at the time.

My sister uses Howden Insurance (formerly A-Plan) for our Mum's empty home. (Mum is 92 and in a home.)

I know a couple of things are excluded in it. One of them might be theft-cover?

Just had a look: 400 pounds for a bungalow 18 months ago.

    Endorsements are things like:

Somebody authorised popping in every 14 days to inspect.

Central Heating kept above 15C in winter.

    Water tanks and pipes insulated

Theft only covered if forced entry

Accidental Breakage within Building is not covered (including windows etc).

    That's in the standard policy
    Needs specialised policy
Could try the price comparison sites who will redirect to appropriate companies

Note that Howdens are a traditional broker and so terms will vary depending on which insurer they place you with
