Universal Credit and living with other people

Hi everyone,
I need to migrate to UC from tax credits. I have disabled children and my husband and I are their carers, we don't work.  During lockdown, two of my relatives moved in and have lived with us ever since. They both work but don't contribute to our finances. Do we need to declare them on the forms? If we don't could there be repercussions?

You will need to declare them if you're claiming help with rent, because that will affect how many bedrooms / how much of the rent UC pay.  But their income won't affect your UC at all.

If you're not claiming help with rent then I don't know if you need to declare them or not, as their income still won't affect your UC.
  • We own our house and we are not claiming anything for help with housing.

Why don't they contribute anything?  I think you could have them as lodgers with them paying a bit but you should check on that.  But they should definitely be paying a bit towards your house for gas, electric, water, etc rather than living rent free.

Yes, any income from lodgers or less formal arrangements e.g. housekeeping from working adults will not affect UC.
