Incorrect information on student loan application

On the last academic year application my mother didn't declare that she was now in a civil partnership. They've now informed me I have been paid too much loan and I have to repay thousands. My mother doesn't want to know and says its my problem, any advice?

Your mother’s partner need to complete the online forms from slc to inform them of his (or her) income. That way your student loan will have a correct assessment. Should the new partner refuse then you will only get the minimum loan.Mac_beth said:On the last academic year application my mother didn't declare that she was now in a civil partnership. Should you not repay what they deem you owe, they will take it off next year’s loan.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It might be work speaking to your education provider and seeing if any financial assistance is available.
Am I right in thinking that if you were registered as living away from home and not dependent on your mum, your eligibility would change and you would be entitled to maximum maintenance loan going forward?
This might also make you eligible for grants, bursaries and scholarships. Again you would need to enquire with your provider. Perhaps Student Union might also be able to advise?
I can't comment on your current loan situation as I don't know enough about the system.

To be assessor on your own income, rather than that of parent(s), you need to be age 25+ on the first day or your course, married or estranged from your parents.[Deleted User] said:It might be work speaking to your education provider and seeing if any financial assistance is available.

Good luck...Another option that may be available, depending on your circumstances, would be to live with your father rather than your mother.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It is extremely difficult to claim you are estranged from your parent. They require evidence of this and the fact you moved away for uni is not counted as estranged/ non dependent[Deleted User] said:It might be work speaking to your education provider and seeing if any financial assistance is available.
