Woodlice in Abundance

I have just noticed lots of woodlice at the entrance walkway to my garden
Particularly after dark when there were scores of them scurrying around

I am concerned that these may start damaging my wooden garden fence
There is some rot on the gate

I've also noticed a few in the house recently but assumed they had entered via my family

Should I leave them alone
Or eradicate them

Woodlice don't damage wood unless it's already damaged, they are the cleaner uppers of mess. The fact that it's rotting is what drew them there, and any other debris, like rotting leaves or vegetation.

They are mostly harmless. If you have rotting wood, you'll have woodlice

If you grow strawberries, they do have a taste for them

    Harmless and useful. Mostly female.
If you have rot starting that will attract them or lots of dried leaves and such hanging around.
Totally harmless, if inside scoop them up and give them a flying trip outside. They probably are coming in on clothing if they are around the entrance. Give it a good sweep and clear the area.

We used to get them in our sunroom. There must have been a small crack somewhere they were getting in through, we'd find corpses as it was so dry in there they didn't last long.
