closure of energy account/refund.
I want to keep this simple which isn't easy todo as this go right back to the 6 December 2023 i informed BritishGas of my fathers passing. My issue is waiting for the ombudsman to get British Gas to refund my late father's electricity account which is in credit. Day 81 and ombudsman have sent the case to their escalation remedy department a week ago and I have heard nothing since.? Is their anything i can do to move the Ombudsman faster.? So many lies/disgusting behaviour by British Gas dealing with a bereavement which is why Ombudsman uphold my complaint (25 april) but still waiting for British Gas to resolve.? Any advice would help.

Have you provided a meter reading at any point.0

Has the supply to whichever meter that account referred to been taken over by another customer?0

or @infoBG123 in the "executors of the late Mr X"Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

Their is no conflict over the details. The final bill have been paid with funds left over from the account and British Gas been delaying the refund which is why I eventually went to the ombudsman and won the complaint but even under the ombudsman decision British Gas is still delaying. All I get from ombudsman is wait. They don't want to act on British Gas actions.0

Energy ombudsman is a waste of time all they keep saying is wait for the letter with the cheque from British Gas. I would only recommend going to ombudsman in order to get a decision if that does go in your favour take the case private because it's clear to me they are protecting the energy industry. No wonder they making so much profit these days.0

Well, I mean they're not wrong.
What more do you suggest they do other than say to the supplier "come on, pay up"?0 -
It's always worth going through the Ombudsman first. It's free to the consumer and costs BG money. It also means that you still retain the option to take BG to court, where you can use a successful Ombudsman ruling as evidence. If you go to court first, then you lose the option to go through the Ombudsman process, and the court may take a dim view of you choosing to expend their time for an issue that may (or in your case, may not) be resolved without them.infoBG123 said:Energy ombudsman is a waste of time all they keep saying is wait for the letter with the cheque from British Gas. Just how many people can afford to go private these days.!!! I think the regulators, energy companies, politicians all know it's a very small number. I expect these energy companies use the local house price as a guide to quickly resolve issues for wealthy individuals that can afford to go private. The regulator awarded me less compensation than what British Gas Goodwill gesture put forward. Just keep your expectations very low when going to the regulator especially if you don't have the funds to go private.!!! even if you win the case expect energy companie to push back payments because they can with no consequences. End of this month (July) iv got to wait now. Talked direct with British Gas start of December. Open case in April with regulators.0
