Advice on PIP renewal timescales.

Good evening all.  I am hoping to get some advice of my partner's PIP renewal.  She suffers from functional neurological disorder. On the 18th of this month, her award comes to an end.  She has only ever applied for the Care allowance as she always thought that the Mobility part was only if you wanted a Motability car.  She was sent a renewal form 2 weeks ago as she has moved in with me and the form was sent to her old property.  She sent it back the same day, but I have advised to be more informative about her mobility needs.  She has a fit nearly everyday, and then bedbound for the rest of the day.  She also gets memory loss afterwards.  She is scared to go out and the fits are not triggered by anything specific so every day is like a time bomb.  She also cannot move more than a metre without my support.  Her PIP end is only a week away.  Should she of heard by now and what are the chances of her being awarded the mobility allowance too?

Thanks

Backlogs are apparently huge, people are having their awards extended by a further year because DWP can't get through the reviews in time.  (Begs the question why they keep sending out the forms so soon then, but there we go.)

When she filled in the latest form, did she fill out the mobility section?  If not she probably can send further information for them to add (making sure name and NI number are on every sheet of paper).

As for when the award runs out, might need to phone the PIP helpline to ask the current end date.  Hopefully since it's so close they'll have extended it already and either just not informed her or have sent the letter and it's still in the post.

I sent off my renewal at the beginning of March and have not heard a peep from them yet.
My original claim has run out but I am and will continue to be paid until a decision is made on my renewal.
  • Sounds like she has a good chance of being awarded mobility but I don’t know how you’d go about it.

Did she fill in the mobility section? If not ring up and request a new form.
Yes they would be given high rate mobility in my opinion because those with epilepsy are due to a Court ruling. FND is similar in that they have uncontrolled seizures and need someone with them at all times. Practically the same as epilepsy. I have epilepsy and get high rate.

If there's no other health conditions apart from epilepsy then the moving around part of mobility will not apply. It would be following and planning a journey that she maybe able to score points for.

I'm not sure that they would send out a new form, unless changes are reported. If they didn't fill in the mobility part this time then they can just send a letter to PIP with more information and include any additional evidence they have.

My Pip renewal was 12 months ago, I’ve received a Capita Assessment appointment this is because I’ve reported care changes. I’ve been told once they have the Capita report it can take 15-25 weeks to make a decision.

That's a little excessive. It's up to 15 weeks due to backlogs at the moment but many have a decision before that.

Here is an update on my partners situation. In July, she filled in her renewal form and added details about her FND and how she suffers with daily fits in the mobility part of the form.  On the 4th December, she received a letter from DWP advising that her current PIP award was being extended by 1 year till 5th January 2026 so her current award of Lower rate Daily Living payment will carry on for the next 12 months.  Do you think she should call DWP up and make them aware of the deterioration in her health and mobility needs?  The letter emphasises about contacting them STRAIGHTAWAY if there is a change in her needs.  Do you think they might 'prioritise' her renewal form more if they are actually told about it?
    Thanks

Not sure that it will speed things up.
Took Mrs renewal 10 months before we even got notified that it was in the hands of assessment co. Now waiting to see if they contact us or just do a paper assessment.

From other posts 1 year is the rough turn round on renewals.
