If so, yes I agree. I have a wifi camera already. But as people's electricity is often cut prior to a burglary here, I just wanted to cover all eventualities.
I am also looking at other wifi cameras, but with long batteries and SD card options too. If you know of any, let me know!
I already bought this little non-wifi camera off Amazon with 512gb SD card and long battery. It's possible that might be enough.

Unless I misunderstood.
Thank you for the link though. I did not know these existed. Good to know these would provide a better solution than my regular Surgemaster.
The UPS is permanently plugged into the mains and fully charged and only starts to supply from batteries when the mains is out.
The 170 mins is if you are running a full fat PC. A low power camera will run for far longer.
I think your reasoning is flawed though. Thieves are only going to be detered by a camera they can see. If they can see this set up then, as said, they will just nick the camera.
If they don't know about it then you're just going to get some pics of your house being burgled at the end of the month which are probably not going to be much use to the cops in finding them what with balaclavas and/or image quality.

Even if you use a reliable car USB adapter, the likely current drawn from a battery is going to run the battery well down after a month. Assuming the adapter draws 150 mA from 12 Volts (just an educated guess based on your 500 mA for the camera at 5 Volts), that comes to around 100 Ah over a month, which for a lead acid type battery is going to need one of at least 120 Ah. That is a heavy lump.Realistically, what burglar is going to disconnect the mains before breaking in? Most (all) alarm systems have battery backup and even if there are visible cameras around the house, they will have recorded and maybe sent off to the cloud any movement before the burglar has entered the house, making pulling the mains fuse pointless. Some of us have a UPS on the CCTV system too!
