Moved House - Cat Meow for attention at night

I wonder if anyone has any advice or suggestions on what we can do?

We moved house at the weekend, and a couple of weeks before that our other cat was put to sleep.

Samara is fantastic during the day, mostly sleeps as she has always done, but during the night she has a couple episodes of loud meowing wanting attention.... we have to get up, make a fuss having a play and cuddle, and then she settles again for a few hours.

I know it´s early days, but I wonder if anyone has any suggestions, other than pet calming wipes, spray, and plug-ins that we have?

Her sleeping most of the day is what she has always done, it seemed our other cat Chip, he would be awake during the day, and asleep at night - like they took it in turns to protect the house.

Samara would only go out to do her business and spend all the rest of the time playing with her yeoww toys, which we bought some additional new ones for her at the new house.

We would just like to get a full nights sleep, so any advice is welcome...... oh she´s 15.

Thank you

Does she have easy access to you so she can come to you and snuggle without you having to get up?  The simple combination of being lonely and in a strange environment likely means she wants to check on you more easily.

Alternative might be for you to sleep on the sofa for a couple of nights just to let her settle and roam with having you close to hand?

Thank you, she has full access to the house, but even at our old place, she wouldn´t come in our bedroom.... a cat who doesn´t like a bed.. who would have thought!

I think there is an element of her missing her Chip..... perhaps a couple of nights on the sofa would help, but don´t want to make things worse by her expecting it all the time.

I wonder now, if putting her in our bedroom at night and closing the door may help?

Sofa sounds like a good idea to me if she doesn't like being in the bedroom.

Hopefully it's only temporary while she settles in her new home.

Our old cat used to sleep in the kitchen at night with the doors shut. Whenever we came back from holiday, invariably the night after we came back he would call us in the middle of the night and I'd have to go down and reassure him that we were in the house with him. After that one night, we'd go back to normal again.

Elderly cats quite often yowl at night.  I think it is just part of the aging process.

Our eldest broke her foot at Christmas and was crated.
She was a pain and woke us up throughout the night.
We then took shifts sleeping on the sofa (our bed is high) with her shut in the same room. This worked very well as she was out the crate but because she was with one of us and could easily get around, would curl up and sleep on us without issue.
She is 'better(?)' but also doesn't expect us to sleep on the sofa.
Have you washed all blankets etc or do you have an old top etc that hasn't been washed that might smell of the old house / her old sibling that she can sleep with until she settles?
It may just be too much change at once for her.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
