I have just bought my Road Tax for a year.

I was hoping to transfer the car to my son ASAP but I realised that I will lose the Road Tax I have just paid.

Is this correct?

No, you will get a refund for any whole months unused - in your case 11 months.

No. You'll be refunded any 'unused' full months.

You could always transfer it at the end of the month so you don't both end up paying for July

It's a scam. Road tax was abolished in 1937.

Even the official Government website uses the words "Car Tax".

"Vehicle Tax", to be pedantic - it doesn't apply only to cars.
I believe the "proper" term, though, is "Vehicle Excise Duty", but in common parlance it's "Car Tax".  But yep, "Road Tax" hasn't been a thing for many, many years.  Not least because the revenue raised isn't ring-fenced solely for road maintenance.
