Car insurance for youngsters

Anyone had experience of 17 year old getting policy cancelled for failing to upload copy of drivers licence and then finding they can’t get insurance anywhere else for under £6.5k as suspected they have been ‘Siri flagged’ (not sure I’ve spelt it right) what can I do as a parent to sort it as its ridiculous.  It’s a group 2 car so deffo nothing fancy n worth £1800.  However they do need business cover.Any advice please? it’s not uncommon for insurers to request a copy of the licence although they usually give a lot of time for this. This should have been addressed way before the policy was cancelled.

If you are answering yes to the cancelled policy question. That will be part if the reason for the high price. They don’t like drivers who have had a policy cancelled. And this is a yes/no situation. The reasoning is generally irrelevant

The car it self and grouping has less impact then the public imagine. The bigger risk is damage caused to third parties.

When you say business cover. Do you mean hire and reward for a delivery driver? This is different to say a property manager who drives between sites.

Theres not much you’re going to be able to do to bring the price down. If you had only 1 of the issues it wouldn’t be so bad but with all 3 combined it will be tough. Maybe seek a specialist broker for high risk drivers

    A new driver
    cancelled policy
    business cover/delivery cover

As a parent you tell them that's one of life's lessons. Guessing it was one of the cheaper companies that asked for the licence?
And that not following the rules comes at a price.  Not much you can do other than get quotes from every source possible.

I had a company ask if a 5 year old used car had any factory fitted options.  I reeled off a list of features the car had and they
could not answer if that was standard or optional, when asked if they did not know, how was I supposed to know? SILENCE and TUMBLEWEED.

I just thought that is a company that will never payout or be a nightmare to deal with. BARGES AND POLES sprang to mind.  I could understand
if it was new and I spec's it but a 5 year old used car?

No experience, but have you tried going to the company that cancelled the policy and seeing if they'll still insure the 17 year old? They'd be able to see why in their records.

For free, non-judgemental debt advice, try: Stepchange or National Debtline. Beware fee charging companies with similar names.

CUE is the main underwriting exchange database but that isn't checked live when you do a quote. They will have to be answering "Yes" to the have you ever had insurance cancelled and that alone will be driving most not to be willing to quote and those that do will be sky high prices... note that there is one very important word in the question that shows the extent of the problem they've created for themselves.

If they were to lie and state they've not had insurance cancelled then its likely they will initially get normal prices but the policy will then be voided for fraud when the cancellation is spotted on CUE which then means going forward they will have to declare two cancellations.
