OP have you contacted the restaurant? Could ask if you could use the money towards another booking. I think going down the ‘pay me back because I’m right and you’re wrong’ won’t get the result you want.

The CPRs prohibit misleading omissions, the consumer shouldn't have to ask, instead they should be told anything that would alter the transactional decision of the average consumer.
Do you really think the average punter would turn down a seat in a hard to get restaurant just because of its location? There are certainly some that will, my wife is very picky with where she sits, but each time we've rejected a table they have sat someone else in it after who's kept it... can't say they liked it or wouldn't have preferred a different one but then there probably is a ranking of tables in most places and not everyone would agree on the ranking (wife doesn't like tall tables as she's short and doesn't like sitting on chairs where her feet aren't on the ground).

Many restaurants the seats aren't finally allocated until they are fully booked so all they could say at the time of booking is you'll be randomly allocated to an appropriately sized table but then who doesn't think thats what's going to happen when you book a table and it doesn't say anything about which table you're getting?

Personally, think your clutching at straws on this one. The nanny state isn't that restrictive.

I think anyone with any sense would :) I don't see the point in having an experience that is supposed to be enjoyable if your enjoyment is going to be disrupted by people toing and froing and doors swinging back and fourth.

At a bog standard restaurant you could go to another, at a place that is hard to book I would assume the food is good to point you are going to take your time, soak up the atmosphere and savour both the food and the experience.

I guess if you are going to a hard to book restaurant to post it on Instagram or some kind of novelty factor maybe it's different.

As I say no specifics from OP, all we know it was probably somewhere in-between McDonalds and The Bunyadi.

I think people are very submissive these days and most people just accept what they are given/told, for those who might ask for another table I doubt many would push it to see if the server is being honest or simply can't be bothered and that ties in with the next point...

....Personally I think you are ignoring the psychological difference of standing in a restaurant vs sitting in your living room. :)

At the restaurant you've got dressed up, travelled, parked, are hungry and are far more likely to just take the table as it's a lot of agro to now go somewhere else, especially without a booking.

Sitting in your living room the world is your oyster and you have plenty of time and will to find somewhere else to book.
