Car Radio - No sound from speakers except when in Aux mode

The car radio turns on fine.  All displays light up showing AM/FM etc.  Clock works fine and all other features like temperature etc are displayed as normal.

But no sound comes through the speakers!

However if I connect my mobile phone to the radio via the Aux cable, I can listen to music eg via the YouTube app perfectly fine through the same car speakers.

13 year old car!

Any idea what the problem could be?  I'm not very techie so that's my best way to describe the problem.

I listen to a lot of radi on way to and from work so this is an essential thing for me.

Many thanks

Make and model of car and ideally radio would help.

Pull the radio fuse for a few minutes to give the computer a reset?  You may need to read the manual for that to find the correct one(s).

Thanks. It's a Hyundai i30 2011.  Radio is just built into the console area, not a removable one.

Interestingly enough, I was driving home this evening and after 20mins the sound appeared out of the blue. It lasted 3-4 mins and then the sound went off again.

That's what it looks like.  I presume the wiring will be enclosed in the aerial and is easy to get to?

Probably an amplified antenna with DC power to make it work.

Loose / corroded connection - often likely the 'earth' metalwork.  But fuses/fuseholders can also suffer from some corrosion.

Aerial plug could also be falling out of the radio input?

Have a check out of the Hyundai owners group forums.  If it's a common problem they'll know the solution.

Have you tried a CD to narrow the issues?

Certainly sounds like Aerial issue. My Audi does this intermittently due to a wire to the power antenna in the boot lid being iffy.

Aerial wiring on I30 looks to runs across above the headlining and then down the offside of the head lining to the windscreen pillar and behind dash.

Issue is most likely at base of aerial or connector behind the stereo. Getting to the base of aerial involves dropping the back of the head lining.

If you don't find an easy fix why not just use your phone with Spotify and BBC Sounds, Talk radio etc.
