Adult family (6 people) car insurance

My wife and I are currently insured with Saga. We are 80 & 85 respectively.
FORD FIESTA
FORD MONDEO
We are both very experienced drivers, with clean licences and no claim bonuses.

I am looking for the most economical way of insuring my adult family on the odd occasions when  it would be useful/convenient for them to drive either of our cars.

They are all  aged 50 +, ,20+  years driving experienced, no points, convictions nor claims, who have their own car insurance.

One daughter and husband live locally so could be called to drive our cars very infrequently at any time of the year. The other daughter and husband live 350 miles away but visit us usually twice a year for 5-7 days.

Any companies provide this kind of car insurance?

    Your options are:

    • add them to your policy all year round
    • add them to your policy as Temporary Additional Drivers just for the dates needed
    • Buy Day Insurance for the time required
    • They drive your car under the Driving Other Cars cover of their own policies (no cover for damages to your vehicle)
    • They add your car as a Temporary Additional Vehicle to their policy for the dates needed
    • Buy an any driver policy
Problem with 2 and 5 is with some insurers you'll pay an admin fee each time its done

Note with 4 not all insurers give DoC any more and almost all that do its only for the policyholder (not named drivers) and is TPO cover so only insured for the damage they do to others in a fault accident.

Do Saga charge admin fees? Do you want to be picking up the costs or them? Given the relative frequency option 1 is fairly likely to be the cheapest option but if you want to protect your NCD and want them to pay to use your car then option 3 or 5
