Ordering PC over telephone - Discounts?

Hi all!
Just wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Looking to buy a new PC in the next few months and was wondering, are sales agents (eg, Dell, Mesh, Evesham etc...) allowed to give discounts (or throw in small items for free) when you are ordering over the phone in order to close the deal? Or is it black and white: The price is £x, and they will not budge from that?
Any experiences?
Thanks.
Robin.

No reason why you can't haggle. I'm pretty sure any sales assistant has some authority over discounting but people rarely try to haggle. Don't go for Mesh by the way, customer support is appalling (9 months to replace a broken graphics card, etc), sales people don't know what they're on about and will actually just bare faced lie to you."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

stick to dell. and always pay via a CC. for added protection.
dell will haggle. esp if you tell them you want to buy it now, and were thinking of going to say ie mesh.
customer service at dell is far better than any others.Get some gorm.0 -
Haggle with dell - I got £50 off.
Check their website first as the price s/he had was cheaper - s/he will then update the price but your starting pont is the price you were first quoted.

I work for a large (8000 people) organisation and one of our shipments of Dells that we ordered last Feb has apparently still not arrived. Their customer service has also gone down the pan.
The general feeling is that the have got too big and have stopped listening to their customer base and have stopped pandering too their needs.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.

I'd strongly recommend Dell, and i have a lot of business experience with them to back that up.
Go to www.dmxdimension.com and have a root around AND then go to https://www.hotukdeals.com , plug in Dell in the search box to find the latest deals. You will probably get a better deal there to start with rather than going straight to Dells site and speccing up a machine, then trying to get it discounted.
Sometimes Dell will haggle further, but dont expect to get much off their entry level machines or machines that they are promoting on 'special offer', it tends to be on mid range machines upwards.0 -

I'd have thought a quick call by your I.T. Manager to his Dell account manager would have resolved this, if thats the case? Certainly thats what i do. Seems odd for it to drag on for ten months?0
