Nationwide FlexDirect not accepted at Post Office Counter

I deposited bagged coins at post office counter. Clerk said I had to put my card into their machine as they don't just give you cash. I put my Nationwide FlexDirect Visa Debit into their machine and the clerk said it wouldn't credit my card because it was a building society card. Well I am now concerned about my card working at a hotel I'm going to be staying at. Can anyone verify that the counter clerk was correct and if paying with this card will work okay at the hotel?

Nationwide do not support Post Office cash pay ins.You can verify who does here: https://www.postoffice.co.uk/everydaybankingThis has nothing at all to do with the payment side of your debit card, which uses the Visa network.3
