Kitchen supply and fitting

Hi all, looking at completely gutting my kitchen and starting again. After reading lots of threads and lots of horror stories I've been speaking to a local DIY store who have been around for 75 years that nobody seems to have a bad word to say about.

Before I give them the go ahead wanted to check there is nothing raising alarm bells.

The kitchen is 3.7 x 2.8m and it will be an L shaped kitchen.

Confirmed they use a qualified electrician & gas safe engineer.

Here you go, pretty basic but there's not really many other options given the size and shape of the room!

Looks pretty good. The flow: fridge - sink - hob is clear. Presumably you will have room for some sort of table, as otherwise it looks a bit tight on worktop space. The path from French doors to the door to the rest of the house also doesn’t cross the kitchen area - excellent.

Can’t comment on the prices/ costs as have no recent experience.

Your having heard no adverse comments is a good sign. I take it you’ve checked online customer reviews . . . 😊

I have indeed. All good apart from bizarrely a couple of reviews from people complaining they weren't allowed to take goods without paying for them. Not sure many stores allow that!

Make sure the hood extracts to the outside, and rigid smooth wall ducting is used for any long runs.
Building Regs require improved ventilation when refurbishing a kitchen, and venting to the outside helps to reduce cooking smells & condensation.
Also make sure that the join in the worktop is mitred - Those plastic or metal strips look piggin' ugly. A kitchen fitter should have a router & jig, so there isn't really any excuse not to mitre the join properly.

Cost seems very reasonable and by the sounds of it a good local company.

May I ask how this went and who fitted your kitchen? I want to start asking for quotes.
  • We’re also in the process of planning a new kitchen and exploring different options. It’s been a challenge narrowing down styles and finding the best value for money, especially with so many suppliers offering different price points and quality levels.

Here’s our current list of kitchen items we’re considering:

17 Base & wall units L shape kitchen with island
Worktops (still deciding between quartz and laminate)
    Integrated appliances
    Handleless style type kitchen

Has anyone here recently gone through a kitchen refit? any ideas on best kitchen supplier to use?

The last kitchen refit I did, I opted to go for base units only, no wall cupboards. This as made the kitchen feel so much bigger. OK, lost a bit of cupboard space, but it has cut back on hording of tat'n'crap.
Fitting a plinth heater was also well worth doing - In a small kitchen, you may not need a radiator taking up wall space. BUT you don't want to use vinyl wrap doors above a plinth heater - I've found the wrap is blistering and coming away from the pan draw directly above my heater.
Oh, and do fit heat shields either side of any built in ovens.
