Thanks @TELLIT01   so does that mean if not refunded, the policy is still valid? (Still no answer from Ryanair or XCover)
What do the terms and conditions of the policy state?

I would imagine that with it being an annual policy then it would continue to be active for the 12 months. As Ryanair state, it is a 3rd party who are involved with the insurance so they are the ones to get confirmation from.

We purchased X Cover when we flew with Ryan Air - it was a competitive policy TBH.  Ryan Air are only selling the policy and offer single trip or annual options.  We took the annual option "Comprehensive Travel Protection Annual" which as far as I can tell from the documentation is like any annual policy - it covers the initial trip and then any other trip we may book within the year.  I cannot see anything that restricts the trips to flying with Ryan Air only.  I think Ryan Air are just collecting the commission on the initial sale.
  • Good news folks. I too have been searching for travel insurance which excludes pre-existing conditions. It was easy enough 15 years ago when my wife had cancer, but very difficult now. My current, excellent insurer, Aviva will not do it.  Online it is virtually impossible.  So I phoned around and found one insurer Avanti who will do it

That's what I believe too. I'm just trying to get Ryanair or XCover to confirm. Neither will do that.

I wouldn't feel comfortable to be honest without confirmation.

I think I'm going to have to cancel in a few days and get alternative insurance cover.

    I'll give Avanti a try 👍

So I've eventually had an email fed back from a human from XCover, but it seems to conflict with what's on Ryanair help page.

Email..."Any trips taken after your initial purchase will not appear on your account. Rest assured, you will be covered for any other trips during your yearly period as outlined in your certificate."

Which I read as the cover maybe valid for other trips/airlines, not just Ryanair.

Ryanair help page...."If you have purchased an annual multi-trip insurance policy, the policy will take effect from the moment you purchase your flight and policy for a period of one year. Your multi-trip insurance policy offers you insurance protection in line with your Ryanair flight timings taken during that year of cover."

Which I read as Ryanair only flights are covered.

I have decided to purchase cover elsewhere as I have no confidence I am covered with my new airline (or any others within the 12 month period).

I will never be buying insurance linked to an airline again, too much to worry about, for what should be peace of mind.
