Worth switching to Octopus tracker?
Comments

I was going to say probably still worth it, just not the huge savings that it used to be. But looking at the price for July 24 version, maybe not!
That said, it should be good on very sunny or very windy days. You can see on https://emoncms.org/ukgrid that the forecast demand vs generation has a large gap, which means prices on Tracker (and possibly Agile) aren't great. All else being stable, the closer the generation is to the demand the cheaper the day-ahead wholesale price, so the better Tracker and Agile prices are.
You can keep an eye on the prices at gastracker.uk
Or use Octopus Compare app (free) to see whether Tracker or Agile would save you based on current usage. Not sure it it can extrapolate backwards for new Tracker formulae though.

How flexible is your lifestyle? You can make greater saving with Agile, if you can minimise consumption during the evening peak, but if doing the cooking between 16:00 and 19:00 is non-negotiable then you'd probably be better off with Tracker.Krakkkers said:Just joined Octopus and thinking of switching to Octopus tracker but the current prices seem very similar to the flexible rates, is it worth it anymore?
Am i missing something?0 -
I have solar panels and use very little electricity from the grid, less than 2 kwh a day at the moment and less than 1000 kwh a year so its gas prices that i am most concerned about.
So basically winter gas prices are the bulk of my bill.0 -

I'm better off on agile even if I cook in the peak period. The octopus compare app will tell you. The only problem is that if you go on agile and take advantage of plunge pricing, to minimize your bill, it distorts your pattern of use.Netexporter said:

Even the current Gas Tracker would have saved you about 10% had it been in force last winter.debitcardmayhem said:

Fixed rates mentioned by two people on other thread O/P started on same subject, cheaper than last year, currently cheaper than might be the case in a few months time.
OFTM - 12 Month Fix - No Exit Fees - Gas Only - 5.398p per kWh - compared with Octopus fixed 5.65p - Tracker Current Version Today 4.74 p/kWh - My Region.
Having been on tracker for a few winters when kWh rate was capped at 6p kWh I have recently taken out 12 month fix.1 -
Having also been on Tracker V2 for a couple of years I’m reluctant to leave the Goose that has consistently laid golden eggs hoping for more next winter. I’m now on the Dec23 tracker till March 25 so have an extra cushion on rates, today in my region tracker Dec 23 is 4.20 p/kwh.bristolleedsfan said:Fixed rates mentioned by two people on other thread O/P started on same subject, cheaper than last year, currently cheaper than might be the case in a few months time.

All very interesting but the only time that the gas price matters to me is in the winter.0
