Santander don't charge for atm withdrawals at their branches within the EU.

Do they have a branch in your vicinity?
If using a Santander UK debit card - they'll charge for using any other bank issued card.
Apart from Spain there are only 3 other EU countries which have a Santander ATM presence - according to their website advice - Germany, Poland and Portugal - and no indication how widespread these may be.
None in the Republic of Ireland, so irrelevant as far as the OP is concerned.

Appreciate the replies! Great information! Just researching chase and starling now. I see that they use MasterCards exchange rate, rather than the true exchange rate you get on Google. I was wondering if there is much difference between the two and how to find it?
    For the 8th July 2024:

    European Central Bank (europa.eu) €1 = 0.84410 GBP
    Mastercard Rate €1 = 0.85 GBP
    Visa €1 = 0.847917 GBP
  • I have both - so it's a matter of personal preference.
Chase do not offer joint accounts unlike Starling - so if you want to keep 'er indoors in the dark about your spending .................... :D
Another aspect to be aware off - Chase only allow the app to be loaded on one mobile device at a time, Staring permit more, although I don't know how many that might extend to in total.
