Good FREE Android VPN?

Looking to see what is good / reliable / not suspect ... and FREE.

I had been using BBVpn but 1) it doesn't feature in any internet write up & 2) it's been struggling connecting lately so I'm not really sure about continuing to use it.

NordVPN seemed to get recommended by online articles but 1) After downloading it I wasn't really sure how to be using it properly as I couldn't really get it working 2) It's not actually free. It's free for a limited time.

Proton VPN seemed to get good feedback however after trying it I couldn't get a thing to load at all once I'd connected to any server. I even got "you need to connect to the internet" messages. Disconnect from the VPN & voila things load.

Secure VPN appears to be working so far but I thought I'd reach out here to see if there's some sort of universally agreed on VPN for Android .... that's free.

The latest edition of Computer Active has a short article on VPN's and Proton was their favoured free option. They did say, however, that the free version didn't allow streaming.

Their alternative was Nord Basic package at £2.69 a month for a 2 year contract.

Just to add that the article was about the fact that about 90% of free VPN's on the Google Play store leak your data with around two thirds selling it to advertisers and a third actually sell your data for profit. This information comes from an extensive survey by  VPN testing site Top10VPN.

You may want to reconsider FREE

Just to be clear on the first pointer there - I wasn't trying to stream.

The data thing is interesting. What data of mine could they pass on?

I can grasp that they can see what apps I'm opening & what I'm using them for but can they pull a load of personal info from the phone itself?
If so how far does this go? Bank info? Login info? For the record I don't bank while the VPN is running but I'm just trying to get an understanding of what data is sold on.

The Opera browser has a built-in VPN, it defaults to OFF, you have to go into settings to turn it ON - www.opera.com

There is also Cloudflare WARP - www.cloudflare.com

Personally, I wouldn't use a free VPN....No such thing as a free lunch....But if you want some understanding of what they offer and the risks etc...This may help...The Best Free VPN in 2024 | Completely Free VPN Services (cybernews.com)

What do you use a VPN for? It may not be worth you using one at all, or it could be worth you investing in a good one. Rarely is a free one advisable unless its for the odd occasion you need to use a website you need to be seen as coming from a different geographical loctation.

Can you see the common denominator here?
Don't you think it strange that NONE of the VPN(other than SecureVPN) are working for you?
Now let's get to SECURE VPN....which one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.securevpn.securevpn&hl=en

    or
