Frozen_up_north said:Argos have several Asus laptops, prices seem similar to everywhere else and you can often pick up the item without waiting for delivery.
A tip with Amazon is to put the item in your basket and wait a day or two to see if the price drops… an even better idea is to wait for the Prime sale on 16th/17th July. 2 years ago one of our Vivobook laptops was discounted by roughly £100 in the sale.
Going from 8GB to 16GB seems to add £200+ to the price in most cases on Argos. Amazing the difference between 8 and 16 on all sites.

Was it really necessary for me to tell you twice?0 -
i5-8400 is fast enough CPU. All you need is more RAM and SSD.
I still have desktop PC with i3 4th gen with 8GB RAM and SSD boot drive. It is capable for web browsing/ watching youtube.

I guess you are expecting more than the standard office/student laptop which typically has 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB SSD, in which case you either have to spend a lot more, or buy a 5 year old ex business laptop.
What do you want the laptop for? I run everything from CAD, electronic circuit simulation (Spice modelling), plus the usual standard Word/Excel stuff. I have no resource issues with 8/256 GB.I use a lot of browser tabs/windows at the same time which I've seen eats up memory. I also connect to VPSs and each one of those takes up memory. Plus Excel, email. 4GB goes almost immediately, just with the browsers alone.
I have an 8GB ram work laptop, I'm a very quick user and use it for graphics editing, countless tabs open across two monitors, etc. I don't really experience any issues. As of now I have 15 emails open in outlook, 4 excel documents, 8 tabs on chrome, 2 windows, Sage, the messenger app and photoshop, no noticeable lag (except when working on massive resolution psd files which is a chore for any computer).
I'd imagine 16gb would be overkill for what you need it for, that's stepping into gaming computer territory imo.Know what you don't0 -

Upgrade the RAM. You can pick up an 8GB stick for £20 and could install yourself in 20 mins with youtube on open on your phone (though you may need to order an iddy biddy screwdriver if you don't have one).Know what you don't0 -

More likely running an HDD, than specifically a RAM problem.
But advisable to do both at the same time.
