How long for banks and investment funds to release money (after probate)

NS&I don't ask for the Grant of Probate when you send the form(s) requesting return of funds.  They tell you to wait until they decide if they want this.  It took them the best part of 28 days to reply and ask for the Probate form, once they had that they released her premium bonds as soon as the 12 months post death was up.  However they still owed us some money from Income Bonds and the interest that had accrued post death.  It took another 2-3 months, several phone calls and a letter before those funds were released.  Once I raised a formal complaint they did pay compensation and interest from the date we should have been paid
