Are US shares and associated balance of dealing account (dollars), e.g. NYSE listed shares held at Etrade, treated as foreign assets for a UK citizen for IHT?

I assume they are subject to UK IHT?

Should they be put on IHT417 or should I just convert $ to £ on day of death and include on IHT411?

Thanks

Yes they are subject to IHT, and as they are listed on the London SE they go on 411.

Maybe I misled you with the microsoft example.

Most of her shares are NOT listed on LSE they are on the NYSE. And managed by a US brokerage account.

In which case you treat them as unlisted shares and use IHT 412. IHT417 would only be needed I’d the deceased had a controlling interest the the non UK holding.
