New to Credit - Advice please

Hi. I have never had any credit, no cards, overdraft, loans etc. I have had my current account for six months only, and I have just bought a flat, so have a mortgage for the first time. I want to apply for a 0% credit card so I can furnish my flat. I have applied for a couple and have been turned down. I did a credit scoring online and the result was 'needs improvement'. I can get a card but the minimum interest is 27.5%.
Does anyone have any advice to improve my credit rating?
Thanks
John

    1. Make sure you are registered on the Electoral Roll at your current address.

    2. Apply for a credit card at the bank where you have your current account. Start using that and pay it off in full each month. Then after 6 months or so, try applying for another credit card.

Banks don't usually give cashback or 0% credit cards if its your first credit card..

    Regards
