Not aware of banks not taking Mastercard. Did you Activate your card before trying to use it? Was your card locked in the app?

ive not had anything to activate it with, its showing up on the app with card number, but no option to freeze card, just replace report lost, pin reminder , but no freeze or activate0

The most likely explanation is that the card hasn't been activated. When you first received the card, wasn't there a little sticker on it telling you to either go online or phone a number to activate it? I'm not familiar with Virgin in particular, but that's always been the case whenever I've had a new card. It's probably worth logging on to the app (or online banking) and just have a look to see if there's an option to activate a new card.

noive called virgin, and was told the card is damaged, the way i would have to activate the card is by doing what i done, by going to a cash machine and change the pin,
new card and pin re ordered0 -
It might also have been a little blip. Yesterday I put my Lloyds card in a Barclays machine and got the same message that my card wasn't valid there. After it gave it back I put it back in and then transacted as normal.0

card number 2 arrived, just tried it and same again this is not working

Have you activated it? Is there something in app or online you can check-box to confirm you have the card in your possession.
Does it arrive automatically "frozen" and so needs defrosting?
Definitely a strange one otherwise.0 -
