Neighbour's insurer wants our building insurance details just incase.

I live in a freehold house with a leasehold semi-detached neighbour.

The leaseholder has just changed their insurer. They are asking for my insurance company and to state if there have been any previous claims. Is that in any way justifiable? Or has anyone had this before? Personally I don't want to provide this info as the neighbour's insurance company could claim against mine without my knowledge!

As you have a party wall, somewhat... major issue impacting both properties (eg subsidence) the insurers would potentially need to work together. If you have no insurance then you may not be able to afford to contribute to works needed on the middle of the property which either frustrates their insurance.

Its a lot worse in flats where each flat has to buy their own insurance... can you imagine trying to rebuild the top floor flat after a major fire when the flat underneath had no insurance and they cannot afford to rebuild their flat?

Never been asked for such info in any of the homes I've owned with party walls.

If there have been claims made affecting the shared parts (e.g. party wall, both roofs simultaneously, common drains) then perhaps share that information with your neighbour if they'd be unaware of such claims from some considerable time ago affecting their property?

Otherwise I'd be saying none of your business.

I'd agree it's none of their business.  I've lived in semi-detached houses all my adult life and no neighbour has ever asked me for my insurance details.  They wouldn't be given them if they did.
