Long handled shears

Back problems make it difficult to bend down to trim the lawn edges so I'm looking at long handled shears.

Most cut either vertically or horizontally.  I need to cut both ways and wonder if there are any that can be swapped between the two.  Alternatively a fixed 45 degree setting would be a suitable compromise.

Am I looking for the impossible?

    Something like this.....

Long-handled Grass Clipping Shears with Swivel (36") | Fiskars

This is a non UK site but I suspect that places like Haskins would have them perhaps.  I have seen Fiskars stuff about.

Whatever you buy make sure they are the correct height and weight for you.

Not exactly what you are asking for, but I use an 'old' model corded Flymo strimmer, which has a button and swivel head to cut edges. Not as neat as shears, admittedly,  but quicker and much less effort. I don't think these are still available new but you might find one on Gumtree or similar. Turns a 30 minute job into a 5 minute job.

Thanks Brie. Have found them on B&Q but the reviews are very negative.

I have an old style Flymo corded strimmer but getting a consistently clean edge is a bit hit and miss and frequent re-threading the cord is a pain.

Looks like I need 2 pairs of shears, one vertical, one horizontal

Husband bought one of these recently. GTech GT50 Cordless Grass Trimmer. Plastic blades & swivel head for edging. Not cheap, but saves a lot of wear & tear on his ageing knees.

I have a small grass edger. It’s like a mini strimmer. It swivels. Mine is 30 years old but it’s really good. I like that it kind of works like a half moon and properly edges. I see they do battery ones now. If I get another one I will get a battery one because my garden is too large for my longest extension. Although given the old one is 30 years old I suspect it would be a little while before I get round to doing it.
