Barclaycard OnePulse

Options
My husband and I both signed up for the new Barclaycard OnePulse cards. We've both made a purchase on our cards, I've paid off my balance in full already and haven't got my £25 yet, he got his statement and tried to pay off the balance in full but it wouldn't let him because his £25 had already gone on to the account. He rang the customer service centre and was told that you can only make one payment a month and as £25 had been credited to his account he couldn't pay off the balance.

Now, I know that the account has 6 months at 0% on purchases at the moment but you could get caught in the future if they are only letting you make one payment a month. I usually set up direct debits to my cards to pay off the minimum and then depending on how much spare cash I have I pay the balance off at pay day (if it doesn't come at the same time as the due date on the statement). When my husband said that would mean that in future if he made the minimum payment direct from the bank and then tried to pay the balance off on his credit card he wouldn't be able to and would then be charged interest on the balance! This would be penalising him - they agreed but said they couldn't do anything about it.

I also had a problem with the Oyster part of the card. I went to add £10 on at my local shop and they wanted to charge me £1 to charge it to the card! So I paid cash instead. I had been told by Barclaycard that TFL would contact me about my Oyster card but they didn't and when I rang them I was told that if I top up on line through Barclaycard or TFL I will need to go to an underground station or tram terminus to activate it! As I don't live anywhere near an underground station (only buses and over ground trains in my area!) that would be impossible! Its certainly not user friendly for online users in my opinion.

I'm now waiting to see when I get my £25 - I assume in my next statement! Has anyone else had any problems with the OnePulse?

I didnt know i was supposed to get £25 back. The only problem i had was with oyster. It took over half an hour on the phone to get them to transfer my old oyster card over. Then later I had 2 email accounts bombarded with automatic emails about cards being cancelled and replaced, and my login no longer works.

Seems ok other than that except the train station cant read the oyster part of the card and all but one of the Bengalis at my local shop are baffled by the Pay Wave functionality, even though theyre the only shop in London ive found that takes it.
  • I wonder if they really thought this one out! If shops are charging £1 to credit the Oyster card, Pay Wave isn't in use in many shops and their customer service centre seems unhelpful, then I'm not sure what benefit there is to having one! Once my £25 is credited and I've spent it I think I'll only use the Oyster bit and that won't be much as I only use buses when my husband isn't around to give me a lift!

Well cashless systems like pay wave are fairly common place in other major cities (Tokyo for example) so its not unlikely it will catch on here. You can set up the card so it automatically credits the oyster so you shouldnt need to go to shops to do it.
  • I spoke to TFL about automatically topping up the Oyster on line and they said I would have to go to an underground station or tram terminus or a station that accepted Oyster cards to activate the top up! As my nearest underground is over half an hour away that is not practical for me. I'll just top up when I need it at the local newsagent and pay cash rather than use the card.

The Barclaycard lady set it up automatically for me. Give them a call.
