New Speed cameras - see "inside your vehicle" ?

The odds continue to drop against drivers.
Whilst I don't believe that these can see through metal - they claim to see "inside your car" ?

I think there's some misunderstanding regarding the Vector SR cameras and sensationalist media has been all to happy to fuel this.

My understanding is, as the cameras can detect speeding on both sides of the road at the same time, the cameras will be observing both the front and the back of your car (whereas the traditional gatso cameras only observe the back).

As they are now observing the front of you car and record in ultra high definition, they will be able to see through the windscreen and can observe whether the driver is wearing a seatbelt or using their phone. I don't think there's any suggestion they can magically x-ray peoples cars and see what people had for dinner.

Of course I could be wrong, but that's my interpretation.

I'm still baffled that people use mobile phones whilst driving, since I can't remember the last time I had a car without bluetooth and even my current one (which is far from high end) can read and reply to text messages.  So no sympathy there.

Same with seatbelts, they've been mandatory since 1983 so it's not as if people don't know. I could accept an exemption for delivery drivers only travelling a few houses down but that's it.

I have to remember that my doctor told me my blood pressure is a little too high when I'm driving along and see other drivers who keep looking down at their lap as though we don't know that they are either reading other peoples messages or typing their own. I'm looking forward to the post apocalyptic world where there would be no issue with just driving them off the road Mad Max style with the steel rods protruding from my wheels. Better cameras will hopefully mean better drivers.

I saw a driving instructor yesterday driving a bit oddly in traffic, walked alongside and he was on his phone either held or in a holder down by his leg, what hope eh?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

    You speak at it.
Loudly and clearly, enunciating each syllable

    "Phone home" I say

"Calling Doctors" is the inevitable response........

I've never dared try sending a text! (But it does a reasonable job of reading them out, and you can reply to them if you don't mind causing offence when it translates "Thank you" into "#@!!! you")
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
